Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Treatments Help Speed up Healing in Plastic Surgery Patients

Jay Hocking of Advanced Hyperbarics Rx talks about the benefits of receiving Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Pre/Post plastic surgery. Most plastic surgery procedures are quite invasive and take many weeks for the patients to fully recuperate. If a patient is at all compromised by any pre-existing condition (ex:  age, cigarette smoker, or any other predicted forethought complications) the doctor will usually suggest that the patient take part in HBOT pre and post-surgery. HBOT will assist in speeding up the healing process by up to 50% because it provides healthy oxygenated tissue.

Patients see a reduction in swelling, less bruising and less inflammation. It also reduces the risk of infection in the incision site, and scarring is less significant. A considerable reduction in pain allows the patient to return to a normal lifestyle much faster. In non-surgical procedures, patients see the redness associated with the laser resurfacing and chemical peels diminish much faster. Smokers, people with compromised immune systems, overweight patients and anyone who has pre-existing health problems that will affect their overall recovery are the best candidates for HBOT.

Patients will usually receive 1-3 HBOT treatments before the surgery takes place in order to saturate the tissue with oxygenated blood. After the surgery has taken place the patients should receive HBOT therapy as soon as possible. Most patients will come in the day of the surgery or the day following the surgery. At least 3-10 treatments should be prescribed for post-surgery healing. If any infection/minor complication is at all present after a surgery HBOT will assist in a more rapid healing process.
